We continued our journey deeper into the legendary Wakhan Corridor, right along the border with China. Our first stop was the beautiful Bibi Fatima Hot Spring, perched high in the mountains overlooking Afghanistan. After a relaxing break, we drove on to the remote village of Langar — the narrowest point of the Wakhan Corridor, where only 13 km divide Afghanistan’s border with Tajikistan from Pakistan.

There, we met a friendly local who spoke excellent English and shared fascinating stories about the region’s culture and the spread of Ismaili Islam — the dominant faith in this stunning and isolated valley. After an unforgettable day in the Pamir Mountains, we made our way back toward Ishkashim.

Join us as we explore one of the world’s most remote and breathtaking travel routes!

In this Season 3 installment, the traveler from Little Chinese Everywhere treks into Tajikistan’s Wakhan Corridor, a legendary borderland that once served as a conduit of empires and Silk Road hopes. Opening with an aerial sense of place, the host situates the Wakhan as a narrow finger between Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and distant Pakistan, capped by the Hindu Kush. The journey begins on the Pamir’s edge, where the landscape reveals its ancient connections to Marco Polo and Xuanzang, and where the border with Afghanistan appears both intimate and formidable—no continuous road, no heavy traffic, only the slow pulse of history and geography shaping travel. In Langar, at the corridor’s Tajik side, encounters with locals reveal a region of deep cultural layers—Ismaili Islam as a central thread, languages like Pamiri and Wakhi, and a social fabric where three generations share a single house. The team’s schedule includes a hot spring stop at Bibi Fatima, framed by canyon walls, where locals

Where 4 Countries Meet: Afghanistan’s SECRET Border 🇨🇳🇦🇫🇹🇯🇵🇰 I S3, EP24

In this Season 3 episode, Little Chinese Everywhere guides us through Tajikistan’s Wakhan Corridor, the narrow borderland carved by empires and the Silk Road. The journey begins with the Wakhan’s border with Afghanistan and the Hindu Kush, a mountain barrier over 5000 meters tall that links the Pamir to the Himalaya. The corridor’s eastern edge sits where Tajikistan and Afghanistan share a border, a place where roads are scarce and the border remains largely quiet due to terrain and instability. In Tajikistan, foreign languages taught in schools are often Russian and English, while across the border in Pakistan English dominates. The group visits typical Wakhi-speaking villages with boxy houses and carpets, and learns how families live in multi-generational households. The first major stop is Bibi Fatima Hot Spring, said to have healing powers and likely valued for its purported fertility benefits. They explore Yumchun fortress, a relic of the Kush empire that once controlled parts of the Silk Road and helped spread Buddhism before Islam. The host explains that Buddhism’s influence in Central Asia left tangible traces like a stupa perched high on a mountainside, evidence of Buddhist diffusion across the Silk Road before Islam reshaped the region. Their borderwatch intersects with practical realities: porous frontiers, river borders that double as borderlines, and periodic border closures affecting travel plans. The Wakhan’s ethnolinguistic diversity becomes a running theme: Kyrgyz influence near Murghab alongside Wakhi and Tajik/Persian-adjacent languages along the corridor, with Ishkashim in Tajikistan and the Pamir’s broader cultural mosaic offering a living tapestry of Central Asian identities. Personal discomfort punctuates the tale—sickness, altitude, and rough travels—yet the spirit of exploration persists, from hot springs to fortresses to border crossings. The vlogger’s companion recounts shared stories of Ismaili communities and local hospitality, including a bread-presenting moment with a local family. Future hopes include crossing into Afghanistan and Pakistan’s Hunza Valley, though political and practical hurdles loom. The episode closes with reflections on regional diversity, language families, and the dream of reconnecting with the Pamir arc across borders. Traveler Little Chinese Everywhere hints at the next chapter, inviting viewers to witness how borders can both separate and bond peoples across high-maze landscapes.
