Guangzhou is one of China’s most underrated megacities — a place where ancient Cantonese culture, global trade, food, technology, and the Pearl River skyline all collide. Most first-time visitors to China go to Shanghai, Beijing, or Shenzhen. But businesspeople know Guangzhou very well. This is the city of the Canton Fair, massive wholesale markets, gray-market malls, and Little Africa — where traders from across the African continent come to buy, negotiate, ship, and build businesses back home. In this video, I explore Guangzhou from the Canton Fair complex in Pazhou to Canton Tower, Zhujiang New Town, Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, Yuancun Market, Tianhe Park, Liwan, Beijing Road, Dafo Temple, Shamian Island, White Swan Hotel, Baima Clothing Market, Kinbo Market, Xiaobei / Little Africa, T.I.T Creative Park, Ersha Island, and the Pearl River night cruise. Guangzhou may not be China’s loudest city, but after four days here, I realized it might be one of the most important — and one of the most underrated.
