This travelogue follows Expat Natt's exploration of Sanya, Hainan Island, China, revealing a side beyond its beautiful beaches. The journey begins with a challenging hike up Lynn Chun Ling Forest Park, rewarding them with panoramic views, despite missing the sunset. The hike, described as having 'a million steps,' is recommended for the cooler evening hours.
Following the strenuous climb, Expat Natt indulges in a coconut chicken hot pot, a local culinary delight. A visit to Beer Beer Park offers a unique drinking experience, similar to Shanghai's Beer Lady, where patrons self-serve from a basket of chosen beverages.
The adventure continues at the Bay Tropical Paradise rainforest, a popular tourist destination. Expat Natt advises arriving early to avoid long queues, noting that the off-season (May-October) offers a less crowded experience. A highlight is the Dragon Rope Bridge, a high-altitude experience best avoided by those with a fear of heights.
The trip includes a ride on a thrilling glass slide from the peak of the mountain back down, described as a favorite part of the park. A scenic drive showcases the luxurious private beaches of the Park Hyatt and Andaz resorts, offering a glimpse into Sanya's high-end tourism. Expat Natt's enthusiasm for cars is evident in their enjoyment of this drive, which they consider a highlight of the trip.
Yalong Bay provides a stunning sunset backdrop, and a visit to a nearby food street offers a taste of local life. While the food street offers a vibrant atmosphere, Expat Natt notes that the cost of a meal was unexpectedly high. The trip concludes with a delightful dessert, a refreshing mix of fruits and coconut milk, and a final meal at South South restaurant, known for its fresh seafood and reasonably priced drinks. The overall experience is one of both adventure and cultural immersion, showcasing the diverse offerings of Sanya.
