Centuries ago, Islam arrived in Xi'an China through the Muslim traders crossing the Silk Road, laying the foundation for what is now a thriving Hui Muslim community. Today Xi`an enjoys a bustling Muslim Street with Halal food options everywhere and hosts one of China's oldest mosques, the Xi`an Great Mosque. Yet, amidst these cultural riches, questions remain: How do Chinese Muslims live in China? Are they free to practice their faith? Our first hand experience challenges Western narratives, offering a nuanced perspective on the lives of Chinese Muslims and the religious landscape in modern China.
